Protect Your Address When Using Amazon Wishlist

The only risk to getting a gift is your address, learn how you can hide that information.

Getting a gift is a wonderful way for fans to show you they care – and, like tips, they are just as much fun to give as receive. By making an Amazon wishlist, you take the guesswork out of buying gifts and show your fans a bit of your personal style.

These are your safest options when using Amazon.com

  • Use package forwarding services that give you an American address to ship to. Once your package arrives there, they will send it to you worldwide. ( Google package forwarding services to find one that suits your needs)
  • If you are in the US get a UPS Box. This will protect your address and is easier to have things shipped to than a P.O. Box
  • Ask for Amazon gift cards instead

Protecting Your Address

First, create an Amazon account with a fake name and an email address that you use just for camming.

creating-amazon-wish-list

Now you can create a wish list.

amazon-public-or-private

After you hit ‘Create a Wishlist’, a menu will pop up that lets you control your privacy level by selecting who can see your wishlist.

Once you’ve decided on your privacy level click the amazon button button to save your list.

amazon my account

Now you can set up your shipping address in ‘Your Account’.

amazon address book

Scroll down the page till you see your ‘Settings’ and select ‘Manage Address Book’,  this will take you to your ‘Address and 1-Click settings’.

* 1-Click is a default shipping/payment feature that is used for your personal shopping, no one sees it but you. Choosing to use this feature does not make your address public or affect the security of your address.

amazon enter a new address

Select ‘Enter a New Address’.

amazon adding gift address

Enter your P.O. Box address or the address you wish to use and hit ‘Save & Continue’.

amazon gifting address new

Once your address is in your account, you will want to make it secure it by setting it as your default shipping address. You can do this under ‘Gifting Address’.

amazon gifting address

Make sure your address is correct then press the ‘Set Default Shipping Address’ button. You will also have the option of importing all of your Facebook friends, I don’t recommend this unless you are completely open about being on CAM4.

amazon account

Now your address will be hidden for privacy when your fans send you gifts!

amazon learn more

*NOTE: Amazon gift cards are always the safest option. You can still give away that your hiding your location if someone tries to send you a gift from your list and they get this message.

‘Learn More’…..

amazon found you out!

Copyright Your Shows With ManyCam (PC)

This may be the most versatile software when it comes to watermarking your cam, it works on both MAC and PC operating systems. It is a very useful tool for protecting your video stream, recorded videos and pictures by adding text and effects. You can even use it to record yourself.

See: https://www.manycam.com

Quick Tips

– Works on Safari, Firefox, Chrome

– You have to open this software before you open your broadcaster for it to work.

– Pick your sources (webcam), and then add your effects.

Once you have picked your webcam source and added all the effects that you want, launch your browser.

If you don’t see your watermark when you open your broadcast window, change the camera source in your flash settings to ManyCam.

If you get a black image on your screen when you are trying to choose ManyCam you may just have to clear all your history or cache and cookies. Restart ManyCam, choose your settings and then relaunch your browser.

Copyright Your Shows With CamTwist (Mac)

As an Internet Personality, you have to take certain measures to protect yourself and your image.

Things like watermarking images, hiding your location, and keeping a friendly yet professional distance from your fans will make performing on CAM4 a safer, more enjoyable experience.

Watermark Your Images

A watermark on your image means that it belongs to you and no one has the right to further distribute, share or profit from that image. Watermarked images are very hard to post elsewhere because other sites see it as a copyright; as such, it also makes it very easy to have it removed if posted. You should watermark your webcam, videos, and all pictures.

CamTwist

See: https://www.camtwist.com

Works on Safari and Chrome (Chrome is NOT a recommended browser – click here to find out why)

Follow the steps at the top of the program menu to choose a camera source and special effect. There is no option called “Watermarking”, it is simply called “Text”.

You have to start this program before you start your browser for it to work.

Once you have your effects in place start your browser and sign in to CAM4 like usual.

Start your broadcast – if you don’t see your watermark, go to your flash settings and choose CamTwist as your camera source.

To find your camera settings, right click on your broadcast image and this menu pops up. You want Settings.

Choose CamTwist from the Flash player settings…

Voila! You have a watermarked webcam that will keep your image safe.

Internet & Webcam Basics

Your Internet connection is the first and most important thing you need to be a successful Internet personality.

A high-speed connection is a must – but other things factor in.

Things to consider when choosing the right connection include:

Downstream Bandwidth – This is the amount of Internet bandwidth coming from your computer. This is not important when broadcasting on your webcam.

Upstream Bandwidth – This is the amount of bandwidth you have going from your computer to the Internet. You should always test your current upload speed before broadcasting.

Test your speeds here: www.speedtest.net

– A low quality stream can be done on as little as 600 – 800kbps upload speed.
– For a medium quality stream, a 1.5Mbps upload speed is required
– For higher quality HD streams, you’ll want upload speeds of 4Mbps or higher.

We recommend not using more than 50% of your bandwidth to broadcast.

This means that you should use a webcam that is compatible with your available bandwidth and  computer if you have a limited amount of bandwidth.

Follow these steps to find the right combination:

1. Check your computer hardware (RAM, hard drive space, Ghz, operating system)
2. Check your upload bandwidth on www.speedtest.net
3. Look for webcams with basic requirements that are just below your computer and bandwidth capability.
4. Install the appropriate driver for your webcam (most come with a disk included).
5. Broadcast!

Latency – This is the amount of time it takes for your broadcast to reach its destination. Latency problems are often caused by network congestion; if you experience problems with lagging, try to fix the problem by clearing up your connection:

– Clear your browser and flash player history, and clear your cookies.
– Clear all your pending friend requests on CAM4.
– Shut down all unnecessary running programs.
– Refreshing your screen or start a new broadcast.

Connection Troubleshooting

If you are using your laptop to broadcast, it is likely there are multiple Wi-Fi modems or cordless home phones around that can interrupt your connection. It is best to hardwire your computer (the thing that looks like a phone cord that you plug into your modem and laptop) to your modem or router. This will give you the best connection and prevent your video from being slow or dropping all the time.

Changing the password to your connection is another option; this prevents others who live around you from piggybacking on your Wi-Fi and slowing your connection. Even if no one is using your signal, changing the password almost acts as a refresh for your connection.

Check that your anti-virus software is not actively scanning your hard drive and taking computer memory and resources away from your video; this is also true of streaming music from sites like Pandora and YouTube.

Webcam Fundamentals

As a performer you will be confronted with a lot of new equipment and terms, some of which may be new to you. Whether you are using your Built-in Camera, I.P. Camera, or USB Camera, these are some terms you will become familiar with.

Webcam Driver is the software that lets your computer “talk” to your USB webcam.

Frame Rate (fps) is the frames per second that your webcam broadcasts in – the more frames per second the more fluid your broadcast. You may find that cams with 1080p have a lower quality video quality than 720p at 30fps because your webcam and computer have more information to process per second at the higher aspect ratio and frame rate.

Aspect Ratio of Webcams

Resolution – The image quality of webcams is determined by the amount of pixels per frame. 720p and 1080p HD cams are high quality because of their “p” (progressive scanning), they progressively scan a high number of pixels on screen every 1/60 of a second. Webcams that have this aspect ratio are widescreen view. 720p = 1Mp

Megapixels (Mp) – While the Mp count is still associated with image quality, webcams that are described in Mp’s have a more standard frame aspect ratio. This means the picture is as tall as it is wide. Webcams with high Mp may not be necessary, as pixels tend to be wasted after 2Mp when broadcasting.

You can use a Digital Camera or Video Camera as a Webcam

A little known fact is that you can use a video camera, and some digital cameras, as a webcam. The high FPS and dynamic color pixel sensors in these cameras will make you look incredibly smooth and clear, and most of these cams have a remote that you can control the zoom feature while you are broadcasting.

You will have to do a speed test and a little research about your camera to determine whether your computer meets the requirements it needs to be used as a webcam.

Lighting for your Webcam

Lighting can dramatically affect the resolution, clarity, color, and frame rate of your broadcast stream. Most issues with your webcam come from poor lighting and are easily fixed.

Poor lighting may cause the following problems:

– Dim Image – having a bright light positioned behind you, such as a lamp or a window, causes your image to be dimmed. Position your camera so that all the light is behind the camera lens. You should never see the source of your light in your broadcast image.

– Skewed Color – webcams use a low number of color pixels per frame, so they need to be white balanced to produce a color corrected image. Using white in your room décor lets your camera do this properly – you can also hold up a piece of white paper and let it focus to calibrate the color.

– Dark Background – having your computer monitor brightness set high adds light pollution to your image and causes your background to appear dark. Simply turning down the brightness of your monitor will correct this and improve color quality.

– Grainy Video – this is usually due to insufficient light in your room; webcams compensate for a lack of light by adjusting their sensitivity, which creates more grain or “noise” in the image. Adding more light will quickly fix this problem.

–  Choppy Video – pixels in your webcam capture light through the lens and send that information to your computer in the form of an image – the amount of light can affect the amount of information sent. If your light results in having too little information (low light) or too much information (bright light) or inconsistent information (fluctuating light) then it will change the frames per second resulting in a choppy feed.

Overexposed Image – directional lighting will cause you to look very pale and washed out. It can also create large dark shadows in your image. A good rule to follow is no bare bulbs on bare skin. Turn your lights around so they reflect off a wall then onto you, or use something to “soft box” your light.

Broadcast Window Tutorial – Part 1

How you fill out your broadcast window is so important, it can set the tone of your room and make it easier for your fans to know what to expect.

Once you hit ‘Broadcast’ on the CAM4 homepage you will see:

Your ‘Start Broadcast’ Menu

1. Broadcast Type

Regular Broadcast

This is the standard broadcast type for CAM4.

External Encoder

If you have experience with external encoding software, you can use this tab to connect your external stream to CAM4.

Learn more about External Encoding here.

Resolution

Set your video resolution here. It may be best to keep it on Auto, to let CAM4 choose the best resolution for your hardware and connection.

Video

Pick your webcam source by clicking the white arrow to access the drop down menu and choosing your webcam from there.

If you do not see the camera or 3rd party software (manycam/splitcam/camtwist) you want, you need to check your settings and start your broadcast again.

Mic

Pick your microphone source to match your webcam source. So, if you are choosing:

  • Logitech webcam choose> Logitech microphone
  • Manycam virtual webcam choose> Manycam virtual microphone
  • Integrated webcam (built in cam) choose> Built in microphone

3. Show Settings

  • Write a fun or sexy greeting for your fans.
  • Invite views to join your fan club.
  • Advertise your social media.
  • Provide details about your show.
  • Promote your amazon wish list.
  • Advertise videos/merchandise you have for sale.

  • Solo (By yourself on cam)
  • Male/Female (Group)

5. Start Broadcast

Click this button to go live on CAM4 with your very own cam show!

Your Broadcast Window

create group

Group shows are like a Private show, only instead of tokens per minute, viewers buy a ticket to join. Viewers can tip during a Group Show.

group show

The Group Show menu will allow you to set:

  • A detailed show description to get your viewers interested.
  • The price of the tickets to your show.
  • How many tickets you need to sell before you will do the show.
  • The length of time your performance will be.
  • A timer for how long your group show tickets will be available.

If you don’t make your ticket sale goal you still have the option to do the show anyway. If you decide NOT to do the show, the tokens will be given back to your viewers.

settings

A Private Show is when you earn tokens per minute by accepting a Private Show request from a viewer. The default token rate is set to 24 tokens per min, and 6 tokens per min to spy. Spy viewers are only able to watch, they can not chat or hear you. Viewers can tip during a Private Show as well.

PVT show settings

Your Private Show menu will allow you to set:

  • Private/Spy show tokens per minute
  • Allow/deny spy viewers during your private shows
  • Allow Cam2Cam during private shows (This feature allows you to see and hear your viewer during the private show)
  • Allow/deny private show requests

You are able to change these settings at any time.

Pending Private Show requests are here in the order they are requested.

You will see a pop up for a Private Show request on your broadcast screen as well.

You have the option to Accept or Decline any Private Show request.

tip goal

You are always able to accept tips, but you can’t reach a goal until you set one. Enter the token amount you would like to make, and a tip widget will appear on the right hand side that lets you keep track of how many tips you have earned.

10 Tokens = 1 US Dollar

1000 Tokens = 100 US Dollars

1 goal

This is what your tipping widget will look like

timegooooal

Enter the length of time in minutes that you will be performing, this will easily let your viewers know how long you will be online for.

textbox

Your Text bar is where you describe your show, or tip amount for requests. A well filled out text box instantly tells viewers entering your room what to expect and can prevent endless questions about your show.
